Beautiful arched steamer trunk from the 1920s

The protections of the angles and the corners are in skin and the bending of the slats was done in the oven. The wood was kept in heat and steam, to give it this rounded shape.
Then, once cooled, the wood keeps the curved shape. This type of shape is typical of Alsace, Germany and Eastern Europe.
