Wardrobe trunk from the American brand Innovation
• The jewelry (lock, clasps, centerers, corners...) in metal
• It still has its key
• and above all the entire interior is original, which is rare
• With the monogrammed interior fabric
• and its fan of hangers
It is often wrongly called a "cabin" and many believe that Vuitton invented it. However, it is quite the opposite!
The first wardrobe trunks, called wardrobes, were actually designed at the end of the 19th century by an American brand, Innovation, and were available in their store on the Champs-Élysées until the 1960s and 1970s.
Originally, the wardrobe trunk had a domed top, a design intended to prevent porters from placing it upside down in travelers' rooms. It was only later, to facilitate storage in the holds of ships, that the rectangular shape became established.
Innovation's innovation lay in its range of removable hangers, an ingenious idea that is unique in its kind.
The trunk that we have just restored retains its original interior and even has its warranty label! It is offered at 3500 euros – ten times less than an equivalent model from Louis Vuitton. For the same price as a plywood wardrobe from a famous Swedish brand, you can acquire a real piece of history.
Nowadays, these wardrobes advantageously replace the valet and can even serve as a dressing room in a guest room.
