In the 1880s, trunk makers evolved their canvases, and more particularly from stripes to checkerboards. Each trunk maker had its checkerboard, with specific dimensions, horizontal or vertical "rice grains", numbers of grains per checkerboard also variable, the richness of the checkerboards was interesting and allowed to recognize each brand. It was at this time that Louis Vuitton will start the LV on the nails and clasps, the address on the lock, the checkerboard "Louis Vuitton Trademark"
The INPi trademark deposit does not yet exist (it dates from 1951) but it is really a great evolution in the differentiation of trunk makers.
