Louis Vuitton cabin trunk, Damier canvas (1889 - 1900)
• With its checkered canvas,
• and its leather borders.
• The lock and clasps are made of solid brass
• Nails marked Louis Vuitton, like the lock
• The handles are made of massiv brass
• The interior has been refurbished
• Its manufacturing period is between 1889 and 1900
The checkered canvas will be marketed at Louis Vuitton from 1889. The checkerboard was already practiced by other trunk makers at the time and we then recognize the Vuitton checkerboard by its squares "Louis Vuitton Marque Déposée" on its canvas.
In its objective of differentiation, the company will also mark the nails, passers-by ...
On the interior label, we find the London store on Trand Street and not yet that of New Bond Street. This therefore indicates that this trunk dates from before 1900
The size of the cabin trunk was designed to be stored under the bed, in the cabin of the liner. At the time, the format had to pass under the bed, ie a height of around 30cm maximum.
By extension, it is the ideal format for a coffee table. Indeed, if you want to raise it, you can use a base on casters (contact us for this available option)
