Beautiful striped canvas hat trunk
• It probably dates from the 1870s,
• With its leather borders with double row of studs,
• And its leather handles replaced, with the original solid brass loops
Its original striped canvas gives it the charm of the trunks that left for Deauville, the stripe having started in the 1880s.
The trip to take the waters in Deauville was extremely chic. On this coast, the half-timbering of the houses was completely vertical, the trunk makers of the time were all inspired by it, to create the striped fabrics.
The jewelry (lock, clasps, brackets, nails ...) is made of brass, well representative of American trunks. The work on each clasp is typical of the United States.
It has everything of a great: charm and elegance!
